Google’s top trends keep changing, and sometimes, they can be minor reflections of countries’ overall situation.

Being cooped up inside the house means most of us are using the internet a lot more than usual. Google has become our new, constant companion. There is not anything in this world that we do not search for using Google.

For obvious reasons, Google's top trends keep changing, and sometimes, they can be minor reflections of countries' overall situation.

But when Bangladesh is searching the most for hand gloves, masks, and hand sanitisers, different countries around the world are looking for, well, very different things. What exactly gains popularity on the internet and why? Nobody really knows.

Last week, two of the top Google search trends in America were Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian. These celebrities are vastly popular and they are America's most sought after celebrities. Move aside other trending trends, you cannot keep up with Kim K, or America's sweetheart Taylor.

Americans were also looking for Paris Hilton, the long-forgotten reality star. Maybe, she finally did something important? Nope! People still just want to know what she is up to these days.

The searches get more interesting because some US citizens are also looking for the Southern Black Widow spider. Let us quietly walk away from that.

On a brighter and slightly more bizarre note, 500K plus searches were for National Donut Day. Yum!

Swiss citizens were looking for Jake Paul, an American YouTuber recently charged with "criminal trespass and unlawful assembly" during the riots. Basically he was filming while a shopping mall was being vandalised. Not the smartest move to gain likes!

Some people in Australia were searching for Priyanka Chopra and strawberry moon. The latter is not a pink drink – it is a lunar eclipse during the season of strawberry harvesting.

Top Google trends in Kenya and New Zealand included "13 reasons why" - a teen drama series. This makes sense as most young children and teenagers are stuck indoors and it will be some time before all educational institutions are opened.

In the United Kingdom, there were 20K plus searches for "asteroid", yes, the kind that has destroyed the Earth in many sci-fi movies. An asteroid was supposed to pass our planet in June. Other searches in the country included Cate Blanchett (she had an accident), Christiano Ronaldo, and strawberry moon (again!).

In France, 20K plus searches were for "Lacoste". The brand recently reduced the price of its polo neck t-shirts. With restrictions loosened, maybe French citizens have finally begun to shop.

I could not figure out Arabic or Russian, so I had no luck in finding out what these countries were looking for. I could only assume they are weird or interesting as the others.

I also could not figure out the Japanese searches, but there were 50K plus searches for "Wowow'. It is the name of a premium Japanese channel.

10K plus searches in Russia were for BTS, the South Korean boy band. Even in Indonesia, 200K plus se
