My Best Friend’s Wedding sequel in the works
A sequel to the 1997 romantic comedy 'My Best Friend's' Wedding is in early development at Sony Pictures, with 'Past Lives' and 'Materialists' writer-director Celine Song set to write the screenplay. Song is not currently in talks to direct. The news follows Dermot Mulroney's recent comments teasing the sequel, though he noted, "Lawyers were talking."
The original film starred Julia Roberts as a food critic trying to sabotage her best friend's wedding after realising she's in love with him. Co-starring Cameron Diaz and Rupert Everett, the film was a box office hit, earning $127 million in North America. Collider first reported Song's involvement. Her latest film, Materialists, released by A24, grossed $50 million worldwide earlier this year.
