Miley Cyrus will return as Hannah Montana
Nearly two decades after she first stepped into the glittering boots of a pop star with a secret, Miley Cyrus is returning to the role that defined a generation. The singer is set to appear in a Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, which will stream on Disney+ from 24 March, marking 20 years since the sitcom's debut.
Cyrus announced the project on social media, sharing a brief teaser steeped in early-2000s nostalgia, complete with visual callbacks to the Disney Channel era that launched her career. The special is described as an unscripted event filmed in front of a live studio audience, combining conversation, archive material and behind-the-scenes footage that has not previously been released.
At the centre of the programme is a sit-down interview with Cyrus hosted by Call Her Daddy creator Alex Cooper. Viewers can also expect recreated sets from the original series, including spaces tied to Miley Stewart's double life and the now-iconic transformation area where she became Hannah Montana.
First airing in 2006, Hannah Montana followed a teenager balancing school, family and a secret music career. Running for four seasons until 2011, the show turned Cyrus into one of Disney Channel's most recognisable stars and grew into a wider franchise encompassing albums, tours and feature films.
Now an established pop artist, Cyrus has increasingly reflected on that period, recently sharing archival photos from the show. The anniversary special positions those memories as a moment of collective reflection, revisiting a cultural phenomenon that still resonates with audiences who grew up singing along — and discovering, once again, both worlds.
