Lion Cinemas hosts week-long Salman Shah retrospective in Old Dhaka
Old Dhaka-based multiplex Lion Cinemas has launched a special week-long film festival dedicated to the late actor Salman Shah, bringing 1990s nostalgia back to the silver screen.
The initiative, titled "Fire Dekhi Salman Shah", features three of the actor's most commercially successful films. The lineup includes Shopner Prithibi, directed by Badol Khondoker, Ontore Ontore by Shibli Sadik, and Sotter Mrittu Nei by Chhatku Ahmed. According to the organisers, the special screenings will run until 29 January.
Cinema authorities have scheduled two shows daily to accommodate viewers. In a statement regarding the event, the organisers noted that Salman Shah was not merely a box-office star but a cultural figure who significantly influenced the fashion and sensibilities of his generation. Despite his untimely death nearly three decades ago, his films continue to draw audiences, prompting theatres to organise retrospective events regularly.
The selection of films covers key hits from his short but impactful career. Ontore Ontore is widely regarded for its romantic narrative, while Sotter Mrittu Nei holds historical significance as one of the actor's final major releases.
Lion Cinemas reported visible enthusiasm from audiences, with fans gathering to watch the star in a theatre setting once again. The initiative highlights the enduring marketability of classic Dhallywood cinema, proving that the actor's appeal remains intact among both older fans and younger viewers.
