Golden Globes confirms new AI eligibility rules
Organisers of the Golden Globe Awards have announced that performances using artificial intelligence for technical enhancement remain eligible, provided human creativity remains central. The new guidelines, released ahead of the 2026 ceremony, state that while tools for de-ageing or visual adjustments are permitted, any submission substantially generated by AI will be disqualified.
The move aligns the Globes with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, ensuring that acting honours are reserved for human performers. Crucially, any AI use must be authorised by the actor, and the unauthorised use of digital likenesses or voice replication is strictly prohibited.
The 2026 awards, hosted by Nikki Glazer, are scheduled to air on Sunday, 10 January. Submissions for film, television, and podcast categories open on 1 June and must be finalised by 30 October.
Nominations will be announced on 7 December, followed by final balloting later that month. These regulations follow the 2023 Hollywood strikes, reflecting a commitment to protecting the role of human artistic judgment and authorship within the evolving film industry.
