First trailer for Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ is out

Universal Pictures released the first online trailer for Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' on Monday, offering the widest look yet at the director's massive follow-up to Oppenheimer.

Starring Matt Damon as the Greek hero, the footage confirms the film's scope as a mythic action epic spanning the fall of Troy and the decade-long voyage back to Ithaca. The trailer opens with a bearded, battle-worn Damon.

Viewers get quick flashes of the obstacles in his path, including storms, sea battles, and the iconic Trojan Horse. The preview also establishes the key players waiting for him, with Anne Hathaway appearing as his wife, Penelope, and Tom Holland as his son, Telemachus.

While the cast is expansive, the production technology is a central focus of the film's promotion. Nolan shot The Odyssey entirely on IMAX film cameras—a first for a feature-length movie. The director reportedly used 2 million feet of film to capture the production, which was shot in locations across the globe.

This online release follows a strategic, theater-focused marketing campaign. Universal debuted a short teaser exclusively in cinemas in July, followed by a six-minute prologue released on 12 Dec. 

The film boasts one of Nolan's largest ensembles to date. Beyond Damon, Hathaway, and Holland, the cast includes Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Mia Goth, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Corey Hawkins, and Benny Safdie.

The Odyssey hits theaters in Australia on 16 July, 2026, followed by a release in the UK and the US on 17 July.
