First look at Robert Pattinson's Batman as sequel gets delayed
Warner Bros. has delayed 'The Batman Part II' for a second time, pushing Matt Reeves' highly anticipated superhero sequel from October 2027 to 18 February 2028.
The new release date means audiences will wait nearly six years between Robert Pattinson's first outing as the Dark Knight in 2022 and his return to Gotham. Reeves announced the delay by sharing the film's first camera test footage on Vimeo, offering fans an early glimpse of Pattinson back in the iconic suit.
Pattinson will reprise his role alongside an expanded cast featuring Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry and Sebastian Koch. Reeves co-wrote the screenplay with Mattson Tomlin, though Warner Bros. continues to keep story details and the cast's respective roles firmly under wraps.

This marks the second major postponement for the superhero film. 'The Batman Part II' was originally scheduled for release on 2 October 2026 before being pushed back to 1 October 2027. The latest delay gives Reeves additional time to complete post-production on what is expected to be another large-scale Gotham adventure.
When the previous delay was announced, DC Studios co-chief James Gunn defended the decision, arguing that lengthy waits between blockbuster sequels have become increasingly common. He highlighted examples including 'Alien and Aliens', 'The Incredibles' films, the 'Avatar' franchise, 'Top Gun' and 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3', all of which took years to return to the big screen.
The scheduling change forms part of a broader shake-up to Warner Bros.' release calendar. J.J. Abrams' mystery feature 'The Great Beyond', starring Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega, has moved into the October 2027 slot previously occupied by The Batman Part II, while Sam Esmail's 'Panic Carefully', led by Julia Roberts, has been rescheduled for April 2027.
Despite the extended wait, the first glimpse of Pattinson's return has renewed excitement, with fans hoping the additional development time will deliver another standout Batman film.
