Cooper and Tom reunite

Twelve years after they shared the screen as father and son in Christopher Nolan's Interstellar, Matthew McConaughey and Timothée Chalamet have reunited for a special town hall event at the University of Texas. As reported by Variety, the duo—known to sci-fi fans as Cooper and his young son, Tom—exchanged more than just memories, showcasing a "bromance" that has evolved from a mentor-protege dynamic into a genuine brotherhood.

During the recording on 21 February, the chemistry was electric. Now 30, Chalamet recalled being a "feverishly curious" 17-year-old on the set of the 2014 epic. 

In a conversation documented by Variety, he credited McConaughey's warmth and professionalism for giving him the "fuel" to pursue acting seriously when he was at a crossroads between Hollywood and university. Chalamet described the set as "sacred ground," where he watched McConaughey and Nolan treat the craft with a level of discipline that changed his life trajectory.

McConaughey, now 56 and a professor at UT Austin, returned the sentiment with a touch of his signature Texan charm. He recalled Chalamet's early "aimless but motivated" energy, noting it was obvious even then that the young actor would "catch" whatever he latched onto. The pair's rapport remains playful; between serious discussions of career philosophy, they were seen shouting gibberish and sharing FaceTime calls with directors.

However, the highlight for the audience was a light-hearted revelation regarding Chalamet's final day on the Interstellar set. The Dune star recounted a "stinky trailer prank" involving a "souvenir" left in his toilet—an act McConaughey jokingly defended as a "Texan coming of age." From farm-bound family to Hollywood heavyweights, the bond between Cooper and Tom remains as enduring as the slipstream of time itself.
