Chorki’s Feu revisits Marichjhapi Tragedy
Inspired by the events of the 1979 Marichjhapi massacre, Chorki is set to release 'Feu', a historical fiction web series directed by Sukarna Sahed Dhiman. The series explores the political backdrop of the Sundarbans, where refugee resettlement turned into a tragic eviction marred by violence.
Speaking about the project, Dhiman said, "There are many stories in the Sundarbans—myths, legends, and local tales. But I wanted to focus on the region's politics."
Although the story is fictionalised but draws from real events and Dhiman's own observations of Mongla. After five years of research and 17 drafts, the script was finalised in late 2022.
The teaser, released on 11 January, features glimpses of refugee struggles, dense jungles, and regional elements, without revealing any characters. The series is expected to premiere soon, with Chorki hinting, "What happened in 1979? What's hidden from us? Feu is coming soon."
