Bruno Mars returns to the top with The Romantic
Bruno Mars has added another major milestone to his already remarkable career with the release of his new album, 'The Romantic'.
The record, released in late February, has debuted at No 1 on the Billboard 200 — marking the first time Mars has opened an album at the top of the chart. At the same time, his single 'I Just Might' has returned to No 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving the singer his first ever week with both the top album and top single simultaneously.
The achievement comes after a long gap between solo releases. Before The Romantic, Mars had not released an album under his own name since 2016. Despite the break, the new project has delivered the strongest opening week of his career in both streaming and vinyl sales.
Another track from the album, 'Risk It All', has also made an impressive debut, entering the Hot 100 at No 4. In total, all nine songs from the album have appeared on the chart this week.
Mars last topped the albums chart with 'Unorthodox Jukebox' in 2013, meaning he has waited roughly 13 years between No 1 albums.
However, the singer's success has long been defined by longevity. His previous records have remained on the charts for years, suggesting The Romantic could enjoy a similarly enduring run.
