Five Bangladeshi films have been submitted to compete for a place in the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards. The Bangladesh Oscar Committee, formed under the Bangladesh Federation of Film Societies (BFFS), will select one title to officially represent the country.
The films submitted are 'Saba', 'Barir Naam Shahana', 'Nakshi Kanthar Jamin', 'Priyo Maloti', and 'Mayna'. Among them, Barir Naam Shahana was released yesterday, while Saba will hit theatres on 26 September. The other three films have already premiered earlier.
Committee president Zahirul Islam confirmed that a selection panel has received all submissions and will begin reviewing them individually and collectively from Saturday. The final decision is expected by September 26, after which the chosen film will be submitted to the Academy ahead of the 31 September deadline.
The Oscar shortlist will be announced on 16 December, followed by the final five nominees for Best International Feature. The 98th Academy Awards ceremony will take place on 15 March, 2026.
