Rohingya youth shot dead at Ukhiya camp
Unidentified miscreants have shot a Rohingya youth to death at Ukhiya camp in Cox's Bazar last night.
The deceased was identified as Nurul Amin (25), a resident of I-Block of Madhurchhara No. 4 Extension Camp. He was a volunteer for the non-governmental organisation Caritas.
"Nurul Amin was in front of his house on Monday (1 August) midnight. At that time, a group of 3/4 miscreants took him to nearby road, fired few bullets on him and then fled the scene," said Additional Superintendent Shariful Islam, deputy commander of 14th Armed Police Battalion (APBn).
Later, the locals rushed Nurul Amin to the hospital adjacent to the camp, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Shariful Islam further said, "We are still not sure who killed Nurul Amin and why. We are conducting operations to unravel the mystery of the murder, and identify the culprits and arrest them."
However, police initially believed that the members of a Rohingya criminal group had committed the murder over establishing supremacy in the camp.
He further mentioned that the dead body of the deceased has been sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
