Rohingya man killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’
Besides, some 29 people were injured and they are undergoing treatment at local hospitals
A Rohingya man was killed and at least 29 others were injured in a reported "gunfight" between two rival groups in a Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Nur Hakim, 27, son of Hossain Ali of Chakmarkul Rohingya camp, Teknaf.
Quoting to local sources Sub-inspector SI Noor Alam, in-charge of the Huaikeng police outpost in Teknaf, said that a group of Rohingya terrorists from Hakimpara and Jamtali Rohingya camps in Ukhia went to the C block of Chakmarkul Rohingya camp in Teknaf early in the morning.
Later, they locked into a fierce clash with 'Toha Bahini' there and both groups exchanged fire.
At one stage of the gunfight, Nur Hakim received a bullet and died on the spot, said the SI.
Besides, some 29 people were injured and they are undergoing treatment at local hospitals.
Panic has been accelerated among the Rohingyas in the camp after the gunfight.
However, the situation has been brought under control, said the police.
The body of the deceased was recovered and sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital's morgue for autopsy.
"I had learned of the shooting at the camp. Right now I'm trying to find out the reason behind the incident. I will be able to tell the details later," said Sadhana Tripura, in-charge of the Teknaf Chakmarkul Rohingya camp (CIC) and representative of the Refugee Relief & Repatriation Commissioner.
