A true public servant indeed!

Many retired government employees in Bangladesh suffer a lot when they go for realizing their pensions. 

They face several types of problems - including partial or full deprivation from pension, unnecessary delay in processing pension delivery, harassment during collection of monthly pension, not providing necessary papers duly, undue delay in pension payment and lack of implementation of pension regulations. Some people have to go to the court to resolve pension issue. 

This scenario is almost common is South Asian countries. But a notable incident, which happened in neighboring India's Telangana few months ago, resurfaced on the internet.

An elderly tribal woman named Azmeera Mangamma, resident of Gurrampet village of Telangana's Bhuvanapally, had been going to the court for two years to resolve issue over her welfare pension.

February 27, 2020. At the beginning, for her, it was just another day like she appeared before the court for many times over last two years. That day, she was very tired, exhausted or might have convinced herself that she was not going to get her pension ever. She could not even climb up the staircases to the courtroom, so she sat down in front of the gate.   

But to her utter surprise, the District Collector Abdul Azeem himself came to her, sat down on the staircase and listened to her submissions, reports a local news portal.   

Azmeera told the collector that she had been waiting for old-age pension for the last two years and urged him to help her. Moved by the plight of the elderly woman, the collector immediately spoke to the concerned authorities and ensured the sanction of pension to her.

It was certainly a windfall for an elderly tribal woman, who had been moving from pillar to post seeking her pension. And Abdul Azeem proved himself as a true public servant. 

Delay in delivering pensions is just another form of corruption, as through it the concerned officials sometimes want to earn money in illegal way.
