Violating lockdown: 67 buses seized in two days in Cumilla

Cumilla police have seized 67 buses in two days for violating prohibitory orders of lockdown enforced by the government to contain the Coronavirus transmission.

"A total of 62 buses were seized from Cumilla- Cox's Bazar highway Cumilla early Saturday," said Molla Md Shahin, Additional Police Superintendent of Cumilla Highway Police.

"The vehicles were kept in highway police out-posts, police stations and will be released after filing cases as the lockdown concludes," he added.

Besides, Cumilla District Police Superintendent Md Faruk, said they have seized another 5 buses early Friday and released the vehicles after mobile court fined each of them Tk 5000.

This drive will continue until the lockdown ends, he informed further.

The government enforced the lockdown from April 6, which was later extended in several phases in the face of a surge in Covid-19 infections in the country.

Lastly, the lockdown was extended until 16 May as the second of the pandemic wave hit the country.

But the movement of all kinds of long-haul public transports was directed to remain suspended ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr. Launch and train services will also remain suspended during the period.

But, the government has also already allowed resuming movement of public transport inside cities and intra-districts from 6 May.
