Port city wears deserted look on 3rd day of lockdown
The roads in Chattogram city were seen completely empty on Friday, the third day of the lockdown announced by the government to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Several areas of the city were visited by The Business Standard correspondents and there was no pressure of people and private transports on the roads as compared to the last two days. City dwellers rarely came out of their houses unless absolutely necessary.
Most of those who were found outside had gone to the market to buy daily necessities or were returning home. Due to less crowded streets, the law enforcement forces were loosely conducting routine activities.
Most of the commuters used rickshaws while several ridesharing motorcycles were spotted at various intersections.
Rickshaw puller Farhad said, "There are no other vehicles on the road. But the number of rickshaws is much more than required. Many new drivers are coming in the last few days, so we have to transport passengers with lower fares. "
However, the passengers complained that the rickshaw drivers are demanding several times more fare than usual.
