Brac signs agreement on improving conditions of disadvantaged people
The partners in the agreement are expected to work on improving WASH, health and education services for Rohingya refugees
Brac has signed a partnership agreement with six local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to improve the economic conditions of disadvantaged people at the grassroots level.
The terms of the agreement were fixed for January to December this year.
Under the agreement, the six NGOs are due to conduct activities focused on: local development, upholding social cordiality, raising awareness for the prevention of gender-related violence, protecting children, women and the elderly, as well as including people with disabilities in the mainstream of society in Cox's Bazar.
Apart from this, they are also expected to work on improving water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), health and education services for Rohingya refugees.
The six NGOs are: the Society for Health Extension and Development (SHED), the Programme for Helpless and Lagged Societies (PHALS), the Alliance for Cooperation and Legal Aid Bangladesh (AKLAB), Jago Nari Unnayan Sangstha (JNUS), NONGOR, and Help-Cox's Bazar.
A copy of the agreement, which was signed earlier, was handed over at a ceremony at the Humanitarian Crisis Management Programme (HCMP) Office of Brac in Cox's Bazar on Monday evening.
Hasina Akhter Huq, area director of HCMP of Brac, handed over the copy on behalf of Brac. Executive Directors and higher officials of the six NGOs received the copy on behalf of their respective sides.
Md Abdul Matin Shardar, head of the Host Community Programme; Mozharul Islam, programme manager, (partnership and coordination) Host Community; and SM Abu Kaiser, senior programme manager of the HCMP were present there.
Meanwhile, Abul Kashem, executive director of Help, Cox's Bazar; Abu Murshed Chowdhury, executive director of PHALS; Muhammad Umra, executive director of SHED, among others, attended the event, representing the partner NGOs.
Addressing the event, Hasina Akhter Huq said, "The conditions of disadvantaged people will be improved along with dynamism and qualitative change regarding the implementation of projects due to the partnership."
She called on the partner NGOs to be attentive to the matter of timely implementation of work.
In their deliberations, officials of partner NGOs stressed the importance of all-out support for Brac regarding the successful implementation of this work.
