Can India emerge as a major player in the global semiconductor industry?
Computer chips are the foundation of almost all modern technologies. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the global chip shortage clearly exposed how risky excessive dependence on foreign suppliers can be. In the wake of that experience, India has taken steps to build its own semiconductor industry. While the country has a strong position in chip design, it has lagged behind in manufacturing and is now starting with assembly and testing. Experts believe that over the next decade, a strong semiconductor manufacturing base will emerge in India.
