Cricketers’ practice off due to Covid-19 worries
To ensure the safety of cricketers and everyone involved, BCB has decided to call off individual practice for the next three days.
Cricketers started to practice regularly after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had given permission to start individual practice after a long break caused by Covid-19. They began practising in pairs from the last week as well. But the situation is not the same anymore as Covid-19 has struck Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Some of the supporting staff assisting in individual practices have shown symptoms of Covid-19 and one of the trainers have tested positive for Covid-19. To ensure the safety of cricketers and everyone involved, BCB has decided to call off individual practice for the next three days.
Nizam Uddin Chowdhury, the CEO of BCB has confirmed the news. "It was a part of our plan to call off the practice for a few days if something unpleasant happened. That's what we planned," Chowdhury told The Business Standard.
Before flying to Sri Lanka, the cricketers will start practising as a team from September 21. Before that, they will undergo three rounds of Covid-19 screening. Those who test negative will stay at a hotel from September 20.
Bangladesh are supposed to reach Sri Lanka at the end of September. According to chairman of cricket operations Akram Khan, first two of the three Tests will take place in Kandy and the final one in Colombo.
