Stern action against irregularities in selling TCB goods: Tipu Munshi

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has warned of stern action against any irregularities in selling goods through the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB).

After some allegations of such irregularities came to his notice, the minister has directed the authorities concerned to take steps against those who are involved in the transgression, said a press release issued on Saturday.

According to the statement, the TCB has beefed up its monitoring following the directive of the commerce minister. The corporation has already taken legal action against the accused individuals, it said.

On April 7, TCB issued an office order requesting division, district and upazila administrations, Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Police to inform the TCB head office of any incident of irregularities taking place anywhere in the country.

The corporation also warned of stringent legal action against dealers and other individuals concerned if any incident of irregularities is reported in the media.  

The TCB is distributing several essential commodities at subsidised prices through 3,000 dealers across the country.

It has thus far suspended the licences of nine dealers on charges of irregularities. It also filed two cases against the accused.
