From 11 July, the decision to close shops by 8pm will be implemented strictly

On the occasion of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, the government has temporarily changed the closing hours of shopping malls, stores and kitchen markets to 10pm instead of 8pm from 1 July to 10 July.

The Ministry of Labour and Employment on Wednesday issued a notice in this regard.

From 11 July, the decision to close shopping malls, stores and kitchen markets by 8 pm across the country will be implemented strictly, it added.

Following a government order, from June 20, the shops, shopping malls, and kitchen markets remained shut after 8pm to save electricity.

Earlier, State Minister for Labour and Employment Monnujan Sufian, after a meeting with business leaders held on 19 June, said shops will remain closed after 8pm from 20 June to save electricity amid soaring global prices of energy.

In the meeting, business leaders, however, requested to allow business for an additional two hours till 10pm for 10 days from 1 July because of the Eid-ul-Azha.

At that time, the state minister assured businesses that she would apprise the prime minister of their demand.
