A van, decorated with fresh vegetables and fruits, is parked at Kalabagan area in the capital. A banner hanging from the vehicle, named mobile shop, says it is engaged in providing kitchen items to customers at reasonable prices and that they do not need to pay VAT against the purchase.
The vehicle belongs to Meena Bazar, a leading supermarket chain having several branches in big cities across the country.
Considering the inconvenience of the people amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Meena Bazar has launched the mobile shop service so that customers can buy their daily essentials at their doorstep.
Md Shakayed Ullah, assistant manager (Brand and Communication) of the super shop, told The Business Standard that they launched the mobile shop on Wednesday.
The mobile shop rounds six points in the capital's Dhanmondi area, maintaining a schedule. It visits Abahani Playground between 10am and 11am, Rabindra Sarobar area between 11am and 12pm, Central Road near the Ideal School between 1pm and 2pm, and Dhanmondi 1 and Dhanmondi 4 areas between 2pm and 3pm, and 3pm and 4pm respectively.
Prioritising supply of fresh items, the mobile shop is also refilled after a fixed period of time, said Shakayed.
He said they are receiving a good response from customers and that they have plans to increase the number of vehicles in future.
