Fish price stable, eggs cheaper in Dhaka’s kitchen markets
The price of beef has hiked to Tk600 from Tk550-570
The price of eggs dropped whereas fishes were sold at regular prices in the capital's kitchen markets as there was adequate supply of goods, but very few customers amid the coronavirus scare.
On Friday, price of tangra fish was Tk350-550 per kg, pabda fish Tk400-480 per kg, small and medium-size shrimp Tk450-600 per kg, koi fish Tk150-200 per kg, medium-size rui fish Tk320-350, and mala fish at Tk400-500 per kg.
The price of eggs has dropped from Tk120 to Tk90-100.
However, the price of beef hiked to Tk600 from Tk550-570 on Friday.
Asked about the price hike, Jahirul Islam, a beef vendor at the capital's Wapda road said, "The cost of bringing a cow to the shop and processing it has increased. So, we had to raise the price."
Visiting some kitchen markets in the capital, our correspondent found that the sellers were spending time chatting with each other as very few customers were visiting their shops.
In Rampura Kitchen Market at 11am in the morning on Friday, there were only five customers, although around 15 fish shops were open at that time.
Habibur, a fish vendor at the market, told The Business Standard, "Hardly one or two customers are coming. We are sitting idly."
