The Hunger Project (THP) is a global, strategic organization committed to the sustainable end of world hunger. The Hunger Project in Bangladesh was founded in 1991 to foster a volunteer-based movement for sustainably overcoming hunger and poverty. THP in Bangladesh is currently the largest volunteer-based organization in the country, with over 150,000 volunteers working toward self-reliance.
In Africa, Asia and Latin America, The Hunger Project empowers millions of women and men to end their own hunger. The Hunger Project has pioneered low-cost, bottom-up, gender-focused strategies in each region where hunger persists. These strategies mobilize clusters of rural villages to create and run their own programs that achieve lasting progress in health, education, nutrition and family income.
Project Background/ Profile
In modern democracies, political parties aggregate citizens' opinions; formulate public policies; provide voters with choices among governing teams and policies; select and train legislative candidates and political leaders, and finally, if elected to office, organize the process of government. SPL Project's activity will provide support to develop a cadre of future leaders, both male and female inside and outside political parties, who have strong leadership skills and the capacity meaningfully contribute to policy debate and party reform. They will engage more tolerantly and constructively across party lines on policy issues and issues of national interest. This activity will work toward a future generation of leaders who, when the opportunity arises, will be able to respond effectively and responsibly to the requirement of a functional democracy.
The project activities will support to achieve of the following goals:
i. Political party activists and politically active citizens have the skills and knowledge to engage in decision-making and gradually internalize inclusion and best practices into party structures at all levels;
ii. Political party activists and politically active citizens have the skills to engage constructively to mitigate the effects of conflict. To achieve its overall goal this project will:
- Implement the PAVE training program to increase participants' knowledge of constructive and non-violent ways of citizen engagement for mitigating electoral and political violence; and (ii) Facilitate the building of a functional network of influential and committed individuals to prevent electoral violence and foster peace-building.
Position Profile
This is the 2nd phase of the SPL project started in July 2017. This phase started on 1st May 2022 and will end July 31, 2024. This is a field-based position. Under the guidance of the District Facilitator, Youth Mobilization Officer will be responsible for implementing youth-related project activities in the mentioned districts and Upazila.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
- Implement the project activities according to the project proposal, agreement with the donor and within the budget allocation of the project.
- Identify potential young political leaders and form Youth Ambassador Groups in the implementing locations.
- Develop the leadership capacity of the Youth Ambassadors and build a deeper understanding of democracy and democratic practice among youth leaders.
- Provide necessary support to the training team to contextualize training materials and support in the facilitation.
- Build a strong relationship through regular and interactive communication with the multiparty youth political leaders and assess their progress and improvement areas.
- Develop plans for campaigns based on the current needs of the youth ambassadors to ensure harmonious and peaceful coexistence.
- Develop content and IEC materials for different campaigns including social media campaigns with the Youth Ambassadors to disseminate the message of peace and harmony.
- Maintain strong liaison with the Peace Ambassadors and create linkage with the Peace Facilitator Groups and the Youth Ambassador Groups.
- Arrange and facilitate training, workshops, follow-up meetings, and different events based on the needs of the target groups.
- Ensure proper documentation (both electronic and paper documentation) of all the activities.
- Prepare the monthly plan of activities and achievements as well monthly reports for the management and donor.
- Identify strong success stories and develop quality content for the management and donors.
- Ensure the project's procedures, the required deliverables, the required standard of quality within the specified constraints of time and cost are maintained.
- Develop and design Advocacy/BCC materials.
- Maintain close relationships with local political leaders, members of the civil society, local Shujan members, youth leaders and other stakeholders of the project to ensure their support to achieve the project goal. identify the scope of opportunities.
- Work closely with the M&E team and input the data into the MIS system.
- Continuously review information, the scope of opportunities and learning from a field visit in order to advise the Project Manager to ensure a result-oriented project outcome.
- Any other work required by the management of the organization from time to time.
Educational Qualifications and Language Skills
- Bachelor of Social Science or related disciplines with good academic results from a reputed university.
- Excellent command of English both verbal and written is necessary.
Other Qualifications and Experiences
- Experience in the field of peacebuilding, and promotion of social harmony.
- A least 3 years of experience in the related field.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Bangla.
- Sound knowledge and clear understanding of the political scenario and electoral process of Bangladesh, good governance, democracy, human rights and social issues.
- Good connection with political parties, local political leaders, members of the civil society and social activists.
- Excellent team player and building relationships.
- Exceptional transformative leadership skills for building the leadership of others.
- Excellent skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power points and presentation.
- Motorcycle driving is must.
Salary and Benefits
Salary negotiable. PF, Gratuity, festival allowance, life insurance, hospitalization policy for spouse and children are applicable as per HR and financial policy of the organization.
