Democracy International (DI) is seeking to hire a full time Program Associate for the USAID funded Promoting Peace and Justice (PPJ) program in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The Program Assistant will work with PPJ to improve the delivery of legal aid in the formal justice sector, improve case management capacity of the judiciary, and increase citizen awareness of legal rights and responsibilities. The ideal candidate is able to effectively work under pressure and has an interest to learn with and from different groups. A candidate with knowledge of organizational and procedural laws regulating the Bangladeshi judiciary and government legal aid services would be considered as advantage. This is a full-time position based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Duration: Initially 1 (one) year with a possibility of extension.
Essential Job Duties:
- Project Assistant will perform the following tasks:
- Assist the Program Team in the planning, design, implementation, monitoring, data collection and reporting of day-to-day activities, including trainings, workshops, meetings, and other activities.
- Attend, participate in, and/or report on formal and informal meetings with counterparts, including, but not limited to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, the National Legal Aid Services Organization, District Legal Aid Committees, the Supreme Court, and the Bangladesh Women Judges Association.
- Prepare case studies, reports and documents of best practices to facilitate knowledge and learning sharing.
- Support tracking of project deliverables and activities.
- Maintain effective relationships with counterparts in the field to ensure teams are adequately supported.
- Collect the details of participants and prepare lists after the events as per DI template with Program Team and in support of the finance and M&E teams.
- Other similar responsibilities DI might reasonably request.
Qualifications:
- Master degree in any discipline. Law/ Development Studies is an advantage.
- Applicants should be highly organized and able to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Very comfortable with Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, Bangla composing skills, internet navigation, etc.).
- Flexible. Ability to adjust responsibilities and duties as the project grows.
- Ability to multi-task with strong commitment to meeting deadlines.
- Proven integrity and thorough attention to details are inherent to this position.
- Strong organizational skills, rigorous attention to detail, and problem solving abilities needed to perform effectively in a demanding position.
- Demonstrated interest in judicial reform, access to justice, and legal aid services for the poor.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team to achieve complex results under strict deadlines.
- Demonstrated commitment to ethics, transparency, and accountability in program implementation.
- Excellent spoken and written English and Bangla.

- This position reports to Deputy Chief of Party
