Graphic Designer - BBC Media Action

Context:

BBC Media Action is the BBC's international development charity. We use media and communications to reduce poverty and promote human rights in developing countries. We partner with civil society, local media, and others to produce creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences around key development issues and strengthen the media sector through capacity building. Our work is built on insights from our research and engagement with communities and is focused on three key themes: governance and human rights, health, and resilience.

Overall purpose:

BBC Media Action is creating content for Facebook and other digital platforms as social media and digital platforms are growing in popularity among the target audience. The position of Graphic Designer will design and develop still visuals for social media platform (image – hand drawn, computer generated and photos) for this project.
The post holder needs to be innovative and creative, must have the ability to act on own initiative within specific boundaries, proactive in pursuit of work to its completion and flexible in approach to work, must be fully competent in Photoshop and Illustrator and must be able to think on the shoes of the target audience.

Job Description

During the development of these visuals, the graphic designer will do the following:

• Prepare work to be accomplished by gathering required information and materials.
• Based on briefs provided by the project team, design rough layout of art and copy regarding arrangement, size, type size and style, and related aesthetic concepts.
• Prepare multiple versions of rough drafts of innovative concept, layout and graphics and make corrections following the feedbacks from designated project personnel.
• Produce final, print- or web-ready graphic products
• Conduct research on current presentation and design trend, learn new concepts and be updated accordingly.
• Develop a creative and consistent look that establishes the brand of the graphics.
• Meet tight deadlines and staying within budget.

In general, normal office hours will apply but the nature of the role means that a flexible approach to working time will be necessary.

Skills, knowledge and experience requirements

The role may involve working with groups of vulnerable children and adults. For the successful candidate, mandatory training will be provided on BBC Media Action's safeguarding policy and staff code of conduct. A police background check may form part of the recruitment process. BBC Media Action operates a zero-tolerance policy concerning all forms of abuse and exploitation of vulnerable people.
