Rocket falls near Iraqi base housing US troops
A rocket fell on Thursday night in the Fadhlan area of the Dujail district in Iraq's northern Salahuddin province, police sources said. The area is close to the Balad air base which houses US troops.
The source of the rocket is unknown, the sources said. It caused no casualties. Dujail is 50 km (30 miles) north of Baghdad. Balad base is about 80 kilometres (50 miles) north of Baghdad.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps targeted the US airbase of Ain al-Assad in Anbar province in western Iraq after launching a wave of attacks in early hours of Wednesday to retaliate the US assassination of IRGC Quds Force commander, Lt Gen Qasem Soleimani.
More than 80 US forces have reportedly been killed during Iranian missile strikes to intended US military bases in Iraq on Wednesday, IRIB quoted a source close to Iran's Revolutionary Guards.
