One third primary school kids in UK think cows lay eggs: Survey

A survey finds that one in three primary school children in the United Kingdom think that cows lay eggs, reports Hindustan Times.

The findings of the survey are embarrassing, at least for their parents and teachers concerned.

Besides, three out of 10 children aged six to 11 do not even know that tuna comes from fish. One tenth say they have never tasted cherry tomato.

The findings show a huge lack of knowledge among UK children about the source of their food, said the report quoting experts. This indicates the need to infuse relevant knowledge in children at an appropriate age.

A charity and a kitchen appliance firm conducted the poll involving a sample size of 1,000 school kids.

Another survey conducted by the British Nutrition Foundation ad two years ago found that one in three think that cheese comes from plants and tomatoes grow underground. The poll involved 27,500 children.
