The President of Portugal has gone under self-quarantine after the confirmation that a student who had visited the presidential palace last week has tested positive for coronavirus.

The office of the president issued a statement confirming the news on Monday, reports the CNN.

According to the statement, President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa had interacted with the class on Tuesday.

However, the statement also added that the class had not visited the Belém Palace, the current official residence of the Portuguese President.

He will be in quarantine at his residence for the next two weeks and will not be travelling abroad, the statement added.

Furthermore, the President has cancelled all public activities.
