Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has urged people aged over 60 to avoid crowded areas such as public transports - train, bus and even supermarkets to avoid catching coronavirus.

The WHO chief tweeted on Friday, warning the elderly and those with a medical condition not to go out. Though elderly are at the focal zone of risk, the warning applies to every age group who have serious health conditions.

"If you are 60+, or have an underlying condition like cardiovascular disease, a respiratory condition or diabetes, you have a higher risk of developing severe #COVID19. Try to avoid crowded areas or places where you might interact with people who are sick," Ghebreyesus tweeted.

WHO spokesperson Margaret Harris said: "Avoiding catching this virus is the best outcome."

"If you are on a transport system, you are likely to be squeezed in with other people. Rather than going to the shops to get things, think about everything you can order remotely."

"If you can do a remote consultation, that's brilliant" she added while explaining about not going to hospitals for regular routine check-up.
