Morsi overthrown and arrested

One year later, however, following massive demonstrations, Morsi was overthrown by the military and arrested. As of 2014, the organization has been declared a terrorist group by Russia, Egypt, UAE, Saudi Arabia and is once again suffering a severe crackdown.

Outcome of revolution

Following the revolution of 2011 that overthrew Hosni Mubarak, the Brotherhood was legalized and emerged as ‘the most powerful group’ and the ‘most cohesive political movement’ in Egypt with ‘an unparalleled ability to mobilize its followers’.
