Eighteen days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the "Fit India Movement", Air India has decided to serve special low-fat diet meals to its cabin crew in an attempt to improve their health.

The national carrier said the Director Operations has decided to revise the in-flight food menu considering the health factor of the crew members.

The move aims to provide light and healthy meals for the crew members along with a homely (Indian) feeling. The special low-fat diet meal for the crew members will be worked out on day-wise basis, the airline said.

As per General Manager Catering, initially the change in food menu will be introduced only on Ex-Delhi/Mumbai flights. The changes will come into effect from 15 September midnight on all domestic and international flights.

The low-diet food is applicable for all flying crew ie cockpit (pilot) and cabin crew, the airline said.

The new menu will be also cost effective, the airline said.

The World Health Organization (WHO), too, blames unhealthy diet as a potential factor for increasing instances of high blood pressure, increase in blood glucose, elevated blood lipids and obesity.
