Veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee who is currently undergoing treatment for Covid-19 at a private hospital in the city has new-onset fever which has become a matter of concern for his doctors.
The 85-year-old actor might be put on ventilation if his present neurological condition does not improve, according to reports by Times of India.
According to the physician's statement, "Soumitra Chatterjee is not keeping very well, his neurological condition is as before just as in the past 48 hours. He is barely arousable, drowsy, very jittery, and confused and that's the only problem he does have right now. Most of the other organ functions are rather improving although he has developed a new-onset fever which is also a point of worry.
"As of now, he is not on any life support or BP support but he may require these if the neurological condition doesn't improve, even he may require ventilation support, just to protect his airway. We are still very hopeful because most of the organ functions are doing well and the Corona part is also not very severe. We are still doing our best to get him better, " the doctor added.
A team of 15 doctors, particularly Neurology & Critical Care is monitoring the actor's health condition.
Back on October 6, Soumitra's daughter Poulami Bose informed the media that her father's condition was stable. "The only symptom that he had was a fever. He had a low-grade temperature for two days. We admitted him to a private hospital today after his positive report a day earlier. Right now, his temperature is normal."
Soumitra, who made his acting debut in Satyajit's Apur Sansar, is the first actor to play Feluda on screen. The legendary star has notable films like Charulata, Devi, Akash Kusum, Ghare Baire, Ganashatru, Joy Baba Felunath, and others under his belt.
Over the course of his long and varied career, he has been awarded the Padma Bhushan, Sangeet Natak Akademi Tagore Ratna and India's top film honour Dadasaheb Phalke Award in recognition of the unparalleled heights he reached as an actor and the immense contribution he made to Bangla cinema.
