As movie theatres continue to close due to coronavirus spread, the US box office records zero revenue for the first time in history, The Guardian reports.

According to Comscore's senior media analyst, the only comparable occasion was in the immediate aftermath of the Northridge earthquake in 1994. The earthquake hampered collection of data, but its financial effects were limited to California.

Major multiplex chains like Regal or AMC have already shut down their screenings.

However, according to Deadline, the latest Disney/Pixar film "Onward" is playing at 135 locations and grossed $71,000, while horror film "The Invisible Man" has taken $64,000 from 111 venues.

This is likely the revenue from these movies have accrued from drive-in cinemas.
