Star Wars deleted scenes coming as comic book

Star Wars may have released the final instalment of the Skywalker saga, The Rise of Skywalker, over two months ago now, but the journey isn't about to end there.

Not only is the franchise now filling in some gaps from the film in its comic books and the upcoming novelisation of the movie by Rae Carson, but The Rise of Skywalker itself is now being adapted into comic book form too – and it will include extended and deleted scenes.

The five-part miniseries, which has been written by Jody Houser with art by Will Sliney, will publish its first issue in May, and Houser admits that she's "excited" about the new details they're adding in the comics.

I'm more excited about some of the new things we're adding, including expanding moments from the movie with elements we didn't get to see on screen," she told StarWars.com.

"I think one of the great things about adaptations in other mediums is you do get the chance to build out elements of the story there may not have been time or a place for on the screen.

"Giving light to new scenes gives the creators in these other mediums a chance to add to the story, rather than just translating it for the page."

While the home releases of both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi included deleted scenes, there's been no confirmation as yet that The Rise of Skywalker will follow suit when it's released on digital, DVD and Blu-ray.

This means that it's likely that the comic series and the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: Expanded Edition novel will be our only means of learning what ended up on the cutting room floor – including those much-anticipated Rose Tico scenes.
