Singer Nancy seeks justice for defamation by Asif
Speaking to The Business Standard, Nancy said she had filed a case against Asif with Kotwali Police Station in Mymensingh on July 10 last year.
A Mymensingh court asked vocalist Asif Akbar to be present before it on February 14 to provide an explanation regarding the defamation case filed by Nazmun Munira Nancy.
Speaking to The Business Standard, Nancy said she had filed a case against Asif with Kotwali Police Station in Mymensingh on July 10 last year.
Police have investigated the case and found the defamation charges to be valid. In the meantime, Asif has been summoned and the court will now look into the matter, she said.
Referring to the case, Nancy said "Asif Akbar is my peer. I didn't want to file a case against him, but I was forced to do so as he has been maligning me for quite a while now. I have been humiliated by my family, which is why I had no other recourse but to file the case."
She said she had sung 12 duets with Asif, all of which were published by Asif's own production company, ARB. I received Tk2 lakh in signing fees as royalty.
"I am due receive 25 percent royalty as per the terms of the agreement, but Asif has still not paid up. He offered me a new album instead, to which I didn't agree. Ever since then, Asif has publicly maligned me, accusing me of being mentally unbalanced. This is offensive and unacceptable", she said.
Nancy claimed that Asif had discussed her on YouTube, news media, and television shows. Such behavior is unbecoming from a senior artist of his stature.
"I have left the entire matter to the court to decide, and I have no further comment to make in this regard," she added.
