Prominent actor Dilu dies

Actor Mujibur Rahman Dilu passed away in a private hospital in the capital early Tuesday. He was 68.

Dilu, who was undergoing treatment at United hospital, breathed his last at 6:46am, said United hospital's duty manager Sanaul Kabir.

Earlier, the actor was kept in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital due to his deteriorating condition, reports Somoy News. 

He was taken to the ICU on the evening of January 15 where he was under the supervision of Dr Omar Farooq of the hospital.

Yesterday, his son Ayon Rahman said that 70 percent of the actor's lungs were affected. Although his Covid-19 result was negative, he had pneumonia.

Earlier, Dilu was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome in 2005. Then in 2015 a type of bacteria spread in his blood. There were also two kidney stones but he returned to normalcy after treatment.

Recently he was suffering from lung complications. On January 12, his condition deteriorated after which he was rushed to a hospital in Uttara. 

He was later taken to United Hospital for advanced treatment, where he died today.

Mujibur Rahman Dilu, a television and stage actor, director, theater activist and playwright, is most notable for acting in the television drama serial Songsoptok.

In 1976, Dilu directed and acted in the play Kingsuk Je Morute. It was selected in the first Drama festival of Bangladesh. He owns the theater troupe Dhaka Drama.

Dilu took part in the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.
