Man held in Khulna for sending obscene messages to actress Srabanti

A man has been arrested in Khulna on allegation of sending obscene text messages to Kolkata's celebrity actress Srabanti Chatterjee.

The arrestee is Mahbubur Rahman, 33, son of Atikur Rahman, resident of Bakshipara road area under Sonadanga Model police station of Khulna city.

Mamtazul Haque, officer-in-charge of Sonadanga Model Police Station said that, Sub-inspector Khalid Uddin filed the case against the youth under Digital Security Act on 16 November.

A team of police arrested him on Thursday.

Later, the Khulna Metropolitan Magistrate Tariqul Islam placed the accused on one-day remand as Inspector Radhe Shyam Sarker, also investigation officer of the case, produced him before the court seeking five-day remand.

The OC said that Mahbubur Rahman collected actress Srabanti's phone number. Since then he used to call the actress over the phone. Actress Srabanti did not receive the calls as those went from unknown numbers and he had been harassing her sending obscene and objectionable text messages and photos.

Later, the actress Srabanti complained to the Bangladesh High Commission in India.

The High Commission later sent the complaint to the Ministry of Home Affairs and requested to take legal action against the accused.

Later, the case was filed against the youth after receiving an order from the Police headquarters in Dhaka.
