2020 has certainly not been a great year due to the rise of the pandemic and the loss of many eminent personalities. Things were indeed truly horrible but amidst all the chaos and tension, entertainment came as an escape for most of us especially during the lockdown.

Starting with the popularity of Extraction to Hero Alom's jaw-dropping entry into the world of music.

Here are some lists of trending news that were trending in Bangladesh in 2020:

Craze around "Extraction" and the story of yellow filter

"Extraction" was one of the most anticipated movies in Netflix and people in Bangladesh were going crazy as this was the first time such a huge budget movie had centered around Dhaka but alas the soft but blunt undertone of orientalism and the use of "Yellow filter" in the background made this movie the talk of the town for all the bad reasons.

Ananta Jalil's controversial victim-blaming video

One fine morning Dhallywood hero Ananta Jalil decided to raise his voice against the sudden surge of rape cases in Bangladesh by posting a 6:17-minute video, titled 'Ananta teaches rapists a lesson' where he gave "brotherly advice" to women by telling them not to wear 'indecent' dresses as it allows man 'to make indecent comments [about women] and think of rape.'

The "Most Welcome" actor later had to remove the video and backtrack from his previous statement by saying he just 'wanted to tell the girls to maintain decency' so that they can prevent rape.

The King of outrageous speeches, Ananta Jalil was truly trending in 2020 but for no good reason.

Youtube trending music the unfathomable "Babu Khaicho"

The constant repeat of the lines "Babu Khaicho" gets stuck inside your brain and you truly start to wonder why you are listening to this song again and again on Youtube.

"Babu Khaicho" written and sung by DJ Maruf was able to generate roughly 24 million views. The music video was of the most talked-about Bangla songs of the year in social media.
