The DC Comics twitter page shared an excerpt from DC FanDome's Q&A session with Wan.
In it, the critically acclaimed director was asked if the next installment of Aquaman have "horror touches" alike the trench scene in the first film.
"I would say yes. Just like the first movie had a touch of my horror sensibility in it, in regards to the Trench sequence, I would say there'll be a little bit of that in this next one. I think it's something that's a big part of who I am, and it just naturally comes out in these kinds of films," Wan replied in the affirmative.
Before joining DC, the director was renowned for his prior horror films. Especially films from the Conjuring universe. They provided consistent box office numbers, some enormous hits.
Wan was also a co-creator of the iconic Saw franchise. Though, he isn't barred to the horror genre, showing his range by directing high budget action flicks like Furious 7. And later, in Aquaman.
James Wan added to his statement, saying, "Naturally, my love for the horror genre just means that I latch myself to these scenes and try to give them a little bit more of my scary sauce."
Similarly, Marvel is bringing the horror touch to their Doctor Strange franchise with "Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness". So, the audiences await to see which one finally gets the edge.
Wan's statements have hyped up the fans as they expect more innovative takes on their favourite superheroes.
Even though, the second installment from the Aquaman series begins filming next year. It's expected to be a success DC desperately needs.
