Popular actress Mahiya Mahi will be getting a divorce from her Sylhet businessman husband, Mahmud Pervez Opu.

The actress indirectly announced the news about her divorce on Facebook yesterday with an emotional status and later confirmed to the media.

Mahiya captioned her post saying, "It is my biggest failure that I couldn't live with one of the best men in the world. My biggest regret is that I will no longer be able to stay close with the world's greatest in-laws.  I have lost the right to hear the words 'Maa Jononi' from my father-in-law or the word 'Sunamai' from my grandfather-in-law. Please forgive me for my mistakes. I really hope that you all stay happy. I will truly miss you all."

Mahiya Mahi confirmed the news of her divorce to Bangla Tribune.

"It is true that I am getting a divorce. However, I want to keep up the mutual respect. Thus I would request you all to not write anything negative," Mahiya informed the media.

For the past few days, the actress has been sharing her troubling emotions about the separation through her various status on Facebook.

On 22 May, the actress posted that "Sometimes self-respect is important than the relationship."

And in another post on 12 May, The actress posted a picture of them saying, "For the last 86400 minutes I have been thinking about writing 51 lines about you. But I can't think how to write that, where to start. Will I never learn how to express my emotions properly? You really couldn't teach me anything."
