Bangladesh-Turkey friendly relations based on old, common beliefs: Obaidul Quader

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the friendly relations between Bangladesh and Turkey are based on old and common beliefs.

"As Muslim-majority countries, both Bangladesh and Turkey believe in the practice of liberal democracy," he said after a meeting with Turkish Ambassador to Bangladesh Mostafa Osman Turan at the Secretariat this morning.

There are cultural exchanges between the two countries," Quader, also the general secretary of ruling Awami League, added.

The Turkish ambassador lauded the Bangladesh prime minister's role in the development of the social sector, economic prosperity and tackling the Covid situation.

"According to the decision taken in 2018, the installation of a sculpture of Bangabandhu in Ankara, Turkey and a sculpture of Kamal Ataturk in Dhaka are under process," the ambassador said.

He added that there are many sculptures throughout Turkey as a testimony of history and heritage but there is no disagreement or debate in Turkey about them.

The ambassador hoped there would be more opportunities to advance the existing relations between the two countries in the fields of economy, infrastructure, employment and culture.
