1969 

ARPANET - Packet switching network funded by ARPA

First four nodes introduced: UCLA, Stanford, U of Utah, UC Santa Barbara

1974

Publication of TCP/IP design by IEEE. Vint Cerf is called the father of the Internet for this invention.

1982

First Public WAN initiated in Europe

1983

The Internet is fully operational with three original networks: ARPANET, PRNET and SATNET

1984

First implementation of DNS and fist email arrives in Germany

1985

Symbolics.com is the world's first registered domain

1986

Craig Patridge develops modern email system

1987

UNNET, the largest internet providers is founded

1989

PSINet, the first commercial internet service provider

Tim Berners-Lee creates WWW and initiates HTTP development

1990

The first internet search engine 'Archie' is developed

1991

www was available for the public for the first time

Netscape and Yahoo is created

Amazon, Craigslist and eBay go live

Google search engine officially launched
