Celebrate Durga Puja in desi outfits

The pandemic may have restricted public gathering, but it could not dampen the spirit of our festivities like Eid or Puja.

Like every year, our local fashion houses tried to bring out different collections for these occasions, keeping in mind the weather and changed lifestyle of citizens.

For Durga Puja, Kay Kraft, Bishwo Rang, and Sadakalo created exclusive sarees, salwar kameez sets, and panjabis. The Business Standard has featured some of these festive designs for its readers.

Kay Kraft

Prominent fashion house Kay Kraft has a puja collection of sarees, salwar kameezes and panjabis. Deep shades of red, blue, orange, brown, and yellow are most noticeable in these clothes and as usual, Kay Kraft has added a sophisticated touch with long or flowy sleeves and designer dupattas. The saree anchals have small, colourful tassels at the border which add a prettier touch. The panjabis are solid coloured with designs at the neck, they can be worn for other occasions as well. Altogether, the collection looks elegant as well as festive. The price range is within Tk1,000-3,000 for panjabis. The salwar kameez sets and sarees are priced between Tk2,500 and Tk10,000.

Bishwo Rang

Bishwo Rang, as the name suggests, likes to use bold, vibrant colours and that is their signature style. Their puja collection features sarees and panjabis in bright blue, red, green, orange, yellow, and white. The sarees are mostly made of cotton, so they would be comfortable for consumers of all ages. There are geometric patterns, small mirror works as well as frills attached to the sarees; a beautiful collection overall.

These sarees can be easily paired with funky tops or traditional blouse in contrasting colours, and traditional jewelleries. Bishwo Rang panjabis can be paired with vests to create a different festive look. Price of the cotton sarees begin from Tk1,200-1,300, some of the silk and muslin sarees cost more than Tk10,000. Sada Kalo

Black and white is never a boring combination, especially when different shades of black and white are played with. Sada Kalo needs no introduction, as it has long proved that these two colours can be brought together to create beautifully designed clothes. The fashion house uses lots of ivory white, silver, grey and hints of red in their clothes to break the monotony of black and white.

From cottons to silk and muslin, Sada Kalo sarees are suitable for any occasion. The puja collection has a variety of sarees which have traditional motifs all over them. Some of them have intricate embroideries at the border, giving them a more fashionable look.

Worn with silver jewelleries, flowers and a bindi, these may help you to create the ideal look for this puja. You can wear black or white blouses, or you can wear multi-coloured ones, depending on what you have at hand. Price of Sada Kalo sarees are within Tk1,400 and Tk15,000.
