From living room to your master bedroom, selection of carpets can tell a lot about you, your taste and sensibilities and above all your personality

You put thoughts into the wall painting of your home. Then you contrast the furniture to that. The curtains must be in tune with that too. Still, you feel like something is missing. This is because you have not placed the carpets yet.

Placing the carpet is the final stroke. This adds to the ambiance of a place, setting the very individuality of your home.

From living room to your master bedroom, selection of carpets can tell a lot about you, your taste and sensibilities and above all your personality.

The trends keep changing with time. We are now living in an era when time is at a premium. There is little opportunity to wash carpets. So it is important to find carpets that would allow for more time between washes.

There are varieties of carpets and rugs available in the market and their suitability changes with patterns and placement.

For example, the most common rugs in Bangladesh are oriental rugs – originating from Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan or Turkey. Oriental rugs are perfect for drawing room or living space. It puts in an aristocratic look in the whole area of a living room.

For bedroom shrugs can be considered as the best option. Shrugs with warm colours exude a cosy vibe.

But your dining space does not necessarily need that heavy aristocratic look. Simple and sunny colours go well with dinning spaces.

Similarly, flat weave carpets are popular for rough use. You can definitely place them on your doorway.

Loop pile carpet has gained popularity because of its resilience. They are good for your kitchen or washroom door.

Needlepoint rugs are hand stitched. They would bring a warm look to the reading room or a corner of your living room.

There is no doubt about the popularity of Iranian Kilim, which are hand-woven carpets. Flat weave, cut pile, loop piles are popular too.

But the myth of foreign carpets and rugs are significantly fading as deshi rugs of the same quality, colour and texture are available in the market now.

The Business Standard visited the shop Satranji. It is largely famous for having deshi carpets of diverse price range.

They are diverse not only in consideration of prices but also in types of products too. It starts from doormat and goes up to wall mat, runner, table mat and regular carpet.
