A little breeze coming through the window in the morning or evening obviously soothes our mind. And what about when with that breeze some mild sunrays enters into the room melting the gaps of the curtains? If windows are considered to be the life of the house, curtains bring enthusiasm in that life.

If we consider the material purpose of curtains, there are many, like- covering the windows, ensuring our privacy, controlling light and heat etc. But when it is about decorating your house there is certainly some extra things you would consider adding to the curtains. Choosing colours of the curtains are one of them.

Like a stroke on the canvas, a particular colour of the curtain can work as the leading material in changing the overall look of the room. Everyone tends to be unique here in choosing colours of the curtains.

Considerations are many behind choosing a particular colour and when it is about the colour of curtains, it depends on the colour of the wall, colour of the cushion and pillow, colour of the sofa set, even on the colour of carpet and other furniture and materials in the room.

Repeating the wall colour while choosing the curtain can be a good thing in this respect. But here you can be choosy about the patterns of the fabrics. You can repeat the colour in the fabric pattern's background or foreground design.

You can easily choose one or two shades lighter or darker than the wall colour. This will work on experiencing monochromatic pattern.

Choosing complementary colours for curtains is basically having a colour which is in contrast with the wall colour. And using contrasting colours in different patterns like stripes of two colours, printed fabrics can bring a very eye-catchy look in the room. You can choose blue colour or lush red for curtain if the colour of the wall is deep cream.

Keeping the curtain totally neutral can be another good choice. This would help increase or toned down the entire room if necessary.

To be specific about the colours of the curtains you can pick any one of these-

A grey shaded wall with some paintings and hand crafted wall matts may wear a peaceful look with light mustard coloured curtains.

Your elegantly groomed up drawing space may get a shiny look with silver coloured walls and curtains

If your plan is to make the room brighter as the wall colour and other furniture, then you can choose a bright colour for your curtains also.

A vintage look can be brought in your whole room by a curtain of grey colour with the variation of fabrics and so on.

Your simply elegant drawing space with a white or similar coloured couch can be contrastive to the curtain colours.

A curtain with contrastive colours like which have lemon & black, red & green prints can make it look extra-ordinary.

This choice can vary depending on the overall colour of the room or other furniture and so many things.

Usually a curtain lasts for five to six years. So while buying one, emphasis should be put on the length, colour and texture. Curtains make a room alluring — but only when chosen correctly. When taking a window's proper treatment into consideration, the essential points to keep in mind are colour, fabric, length and lining and custom-made versus straight off-the-shelf.
