4046 cyclone shelters prepped to tackle Amphan in Chattogram

Chattogram district administration has prepped 4046 cyclone shelters to house people of the coastal district during the super-cyclone Amphan, that is going to hit Bangladesh today.

Fifteen thousand volunteers along with 284 medical teams have also been kept on stand by to help the people of the district during this natural calamity.

City corporation and local administration officials are urging residents of the city to move to safer locations or take cover inside the cyclone shelters prepped for the storm.

Chattogram city corporation mayor AJM Nasir Uddin in monitoring the whole operation form the control cell at the city corporation office in Dampara.

AJM Nasir Uddin said, "Among our 41 wards, Mohora, Kattali, South Kattali, Mid-north Halishahar, Mid-south Halishahar, South Halishahar, Patenga and South Patenga areas areas are under the risk of being hit by the cyclone and tidal waves."

"Some of the wards are under the risk of land slides if the cyclone is accompanied by heavy rain.", Nasir added.

Cyclone awareness announcements are being made via loud speakers to alert the residents of the city about the cyclone situation and have been asked to move to safer locations. The ward councilors have already started announcement activities under personal management.

A central recording of the announcement has been made and is being played via loud speakers all over the city to alert people.

The mayor also said that measures to ensure social distancing during the relocations have been taken and there are enough sanitation facilities inside the shelter.

District Relief and Relocation Officer Sajeeb Kumar Chakrabarty said, "Three hundred metric tonnes of rice and 5 lac taka cash has been allocated for cyclone relief for the area. 3 thousand packets of dry food have also kept for the cyclone shelter."

Deputy Press and Publication Secretary at Red Crescent Youth Chittagong, Mesbah Uddin said, "Our volunteers are making loud speaker announcements to raise awareness along the coastal areas of the city."

"We are ready to tackle any situation.", added Mesbah.
