Heavy rains may trigger landslides in Chattogram

Due to active monsoon winds and deep moving clouds over the northern Bay of Bengal and nearby areas, places in Chattogram, Sylhet and Barishal division may experience heavy rainfall

The Bangladesh meteorological department said in a forecast on Wednesday that heavy rain may trigger landslides in Chattogram division.

The statement was made in the latest bulletin by Patenga Meteorological office at 3 pm on Wednesday.

Due to active monsoon winds and deep moving clouds over the northern Bay of Bengal and nearby areas, places in Chattogram, Sylhet and Barishal division may experience heavy rainfall.

The heavy rain may start from 10 am on Thursday and continue for the next 24 hours, and various areas may get rainfall measuring 44-88 millimeters.

Chattogram, Mongla and Payra port authorities have been advised by the meteorological office to hoist No 3 cautionary signal.

The fishing boats that are currently in the northern Bay of Bengal have been advised to relocated near coastal areas and move with caution.
