Vidya has acquired the adaptation rights for the book.

After successful appearances on Tumhari Sulu (2017) and Mission Mangal (2019), Vidya Balan is poised to play India’s ex-prime minister Indira Gandhi in an upcoming web series.

The series will be based on Sagarika Ghose’s book, Indira: India’s Most Powerful Prime Minister. Vidya, has acquired the adaptation rights for the book, stated that the content of the series, would require a lot of work.

The National Award-winning actor said, “It’s been around two years since I bought the rights to a book on Indira Gandhi, as I wanted to turn the story into a web series. But at that time, I didn’t realize a web series is a completely different format and involves a lot of work. It’s also taking a little long as the format itself is quite elaborate. That’s why writing is also taking time,” says the actor.

However there is no official statement made on the project. But Vidiya said, “I don’t know exactly when (we can start), but hopefully, in a year or two. Also, there’s so much material when it comes to someone like Indiraji, and we are going through a lot of it. Things are moving a bit slow. However, I am not in any hurry.”
