Here is a curated list of Bangla rock songs that defined 2019, in no particular order.
"They don't make good music these days".
In case you are echoing with the sentence above, you must be away from the music scene for a while.
As 2019 is fading out, we take a look back at 10 great Bangla rock songs of the year, proving that Bangla Rock is not dead.
Bear in mind that, there were many more songs we could not stop listening to, but we strictly wanted this to be a "10 songs by 10 bands" listopia. No particular order or ranking was followed to create this list.
1. About Dark- Tumi
About Dark debuted their single "Tumi" in January. Bearing patriotic sentiment, this song is an outlier of this list. "Tumi" could very well become a popular arena rock anthem in the future. Masterful guitar-work by Chittu ups the ante while uncanny singing by Moon makes "Tumi" a corwd favorite.
2. Shironamhin- Ei Obelay
Shironamhin never ceases to amaze. This band has been continuously releasing fantastic music despite the fall of the audio industry. "Ei Obelay" is a beautiful rock ballad that was received with appreciation among hardcore Shironamhin fans. It would not be an overstatement to call it the best song of Shironamhin since Sheikh Ishtiaque joined as their vocalist.
3. Arekta Rock Band- Eden
Arekta Rock Band dropped their single "Eden" later in the year, since then, the track has gained quite a following among the listeners. If you are a fan of the synthwave, you will love this song. We highly recommend to watch the music video on Youtube. Ifaz Abrar Reza played a brilliant guitar solo, making it a staple part of this song.
4. Artcell- Obhoy
The progressive rock giants Artcell collaborated with USAID to record the song "Obhoy". The song promotes peace and tolerance among youth. Artcell never compromised with their music and this song is no exception. With the inclusion of Kazi Faisal Ahmed in the band, "Obhoy" is an essential addition to the Artcell discography.
5. Conclusion- Odyssey
Odyssey is arguably the catchiest song of this list. With a sharp bassline and soothing riff, Odyssey is by far their most popular song, and one of the best of 2019. Be sure to check out "Mohakashchari", the debut album by Conclusion.
6. Vikings- Tor oi shohore
Vikings reunited in 2015 after a hiatus of over a decade, and now they are constantly mesmerizing with their soulful rock numbers. The band premiered four songs from their upcoming album "Boyosh Jokhon Ekush". "Tor oi shohore" was not hard to pick as their best song of the year.
7. Arbovirus- Amari moto
2 years after their third album, Arbovirus released "Otopor", an EP consisting four songs in mid-2019. Amari moto is one of the four songs. Catchy chorus is the heart of this song. Arbovirus is famous for their theatrics and "Amari moto" could be the next big hit for them on live shows.
8. Indalo- 1996
This one is the only song in this list that is not an original composition. Fans of the 90s' bands will instantly recognize "1996" as Indalo blends songs by L.R.B and Ark in this mismatch single. Indalo is unparalleled in the kind of music they do. Once you stop comparing to the original, you won't get enough of 1996.
9. Nemesis- Ami
Nemesis released their single "Ami" to commemorate the road safety movement by the students. Rebellious lyrics and strong vocals by Zohad made this song so special. The storytelling and illustration of the music video was done by Morshed Mishu and animated by Ahmed Intishar Fardeen.
10. Black- Dhushor
The ABC generation legend Black is working on their next album. "Dhushor" is the only single released from the upcoming record so far. The band still has the spark like the good old days of the 2000s'. They just need to do more live shows to stay active in the scene.
